Project summary

In partnership with Christoph Laforge. In September 2006, the demolition of the bridge in the Maameltein area lead to the unexpected reveal of the valley which the bridge long stood over. Its destruction made the territory visible. The preservation of this landscape (as evident of our war-ridden geographic history) became a clear necessity. In the context of a continued urbanization that has covered most of the coastline, the value of such landscapes comes from their rarity. The steepness of these sites is what makes them resist construction. They are neglected by urbanization, which transforms them into wild waste lands or accidental discharges for the construction sites around them. However, the degradation of these sites, is not irreversible. With the aim of moving towards a sustainable development, action is needed before the situation settles for good. Highlighting these sites is the beginning of the formation of a pattern of preservation, valorization, and use.
